Lauren White is a self taught painter, with a residency at Greenleaf Art Center, in Rogers Park. She works predominantly with acrylic paint, watercolor, inks, and oil paint combined with cold wax.
Her paintings have a juxtaposition of illustrative narratives and abstract expressionism. Layers of color and texture unfold in Lauren’s work.
Her oil and wax paintings are built on layers that are peeled away with palette knives. the physical process creates a release of emotion that is expressed through the created textures and colors in her produced work. This strongly contrasts with her watercolor illustrations, based in nature and at times surreal, she creates stories and meanings, everything put on the paper having a specific purpose.
Lauren’s work is influenced by music, nature, current politics and women’s rights.
She graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2019 majoring in Illustration and Fine Art. During her time at Columbia she was a studio assistant for Niki Nolin, who inspired her in the subjects of mixed media and digital art.
Her latest exhibitions have been with Greenleaf Art Center.
